A specialist in coronary artery bypass surgery, aortic and mitral heart valve replacement, aortic aneurysm repair and cardiac keyhole surgery, Mr Chris Young is a cardiothoracic surgeon at London Bridge Hospital and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London, UK.
Mr Young graduated from Sheffield University Medical School in 1980. After passing general surgical fellowship exams, he trained for two years at London’s St Bartholomew’s Hospital, before moving to St Thomas’. After a year in clinic, Mr Young was awarded a British Heart Foundation Junior Research Fellowship and spent two years on heart surgery research at the Rayne Institute, leading to an MD in 1991 for his studies in myocardial protection.
Following a year as a senior registrar at Great Ormond St Hospital for Sick Children, Mr Young spent 12 months at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. He developed a passion for aortic vascular surgery, and ever since has specialised in all aspects of aortic valve and aortic aneurysm surgery.
