After passing general surgical fellowship exams, he trained for two years at London&#8217;s St Bartholomew&#8217;s Hospital, before moving to St Thomas&#8217;. After a year in clinic, Mr Young was awarded a British Heart Foundation Junior Research Fellowship and spent two years on heart surgery research at the Rayne Institute, leading to an MD in 1991 for his studies in myocardial protection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Following a year as a senior registrar at Great Ormond St Hospital for Sick Children, Mr Young spent 12 months at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
