Rapid deployment valves requiring minimal sutures are an\nalternative to conventional surgical valves. In addition to facilitating\nminimally invasive surgery, rapid deployment valves are associated with\nimproved haemodynamic outcomes compared with conventional surgical valves. The\nmechanism behind these haemodynamic outcomes is unknown. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sadri et al. <\/em>present the first in-vitro <\/em>study that\ncompares a conventional valve with a rapid deployment valve in the same\nsurrounding physiology. PERIMOUNT Magna Ease and EDWARDS INTUITY Elite valves\nwere sequentially implanted in a donor heart, and \u03bc-computerised tomography used\nto develop 3D-printed flow models for each valve. Sadri et al.<\/em> explain how\nthe EDWARDS INTUITY Elite, a rapid deployment valve, may increase effective\norifice area and lower transvalvular pressure gradients, peak velocities and\npatient\u2500prosthesis\nmismatch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
